About Agora Arts

Welcome to the Agora Arts web site! Agora Arts features art and fine craft created by over 250 American artists and craftspeople. Agora Arts is located in the Hotel Winneshiek, an historic hotel in the heart of downtown Decorah. Decorah is nestled in the beautiful bluffs of northeastern Iowa, and is home to Luther College, Seed Savers Heritage Farm, small organic family farms, The Loft on Water Street, and the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum. We are only 2.5 hours south of Minneapolis, 4 hours northeast of Des Moines, or 5 hours northwest of Chicago. Gail Magnuson, a Decorah native, Luther graduate, and artist owns and operates the gallery. Gail opened Agora Arts in 1992 with the consigned work of 30 local artists. Agora Arts is a 4-time recipient of the Niche Top 100 Retailers of American Craft Award. Criteria for the award include promoting and marketing American craft, treating artists fairly, and giving back time and energy to the community. Decorah's newest place to stay,
